MILWAUKEE, Wis. – In a sloppy game that saw 38 turnovers and just 31 made field goals, the Edgewood College women's basketball team's scrappy defense wasn't enough in a 58-36 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (6-7, 4-4 NACC) held the Warriors (10-1, 7-0 NACC) to a season-low 34 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers, but countered with a 25 percent shooting mark and 23 turnovers on offense. Jennifer Freeman led the team in scoring for the first time this season with eight points and three rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench. Eagle starters combined for 24 points on only 8-for-41 shooting.
Both offenses struggled to find a rhythm in a first quarter that ended with the Warriors holding a 10-9 lead. The Eagles found out why the Warriors own the NACC's top defense after being held to their lowest scoring output in any quarter this season in being outscored, 16-2, in the decisive 2nd quarter.
Wisconsin Lutheran was led by the NACC's second-highest scoring duo, Caitlin Knueppel and Jen Dowden, who added 16 and 12 points, respectively. It was the Warriors 13th straight win over the Eagles.
Next up for the Eagles is a matchup with Dominican (2-6 NACC) in the Edgedome this Wednesday, January 10 at 7:00 p.m. Dominican won at winless Marian, 64-52, on January 6.
