LISLE, Ill. – A poor shooting night and a fast start by Benedictine ended the Edgewood College women's basketball team's two-game win streak as they fell to Benedictine on the road, 78-47, on Saturday afternoon.
Kelly Carpenter led the team with 10 points and six rebounds, Delaney Wilhelm and Abby Shane added nine points apiece, but it wasn't enough for an offense that shot under 30 percent in their first meeting of the season with Benedictine. After shooting over 40 percent from deep during their two-game win streak, Edgewood College mustered a 3-for-16 (18.8 percent) performance from the 3-point line in today's game.
Edgewood College (8-11, 6-8 NACC) trailed for the entirety of the game and faced deficits of 17-4 and 21-9 in the first quarter and trailed Benedictine (14-5, 11-3 NACC), 40-22, at the break. Benedictine, also nicknamed the Eagles, led by as many as 39 points in the second half.
D'Asia Williams scored 12 points for a Benedictine team that shot 44.9 percent, outscored Edgewood College 44-14 in the paint, and is now tied for second in the NACC standings.
Edgewood College, currently seventh in the NACC standings, visits MSOE this Tuesday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. MSOE (7-12, 5-9 NACC) was routed by NACC leading Wisconsin Lutheran, 80-38, on Saturday.
