Renee Meister and
Savannah Koester combined for 22 kills, senior
Haley Schwenn totaled 24 assists, and the Edgewood College volleyball team won their first match of the season, 3-0, over Wheaton College (Ill.) on Wednesday night. The Eagles lost to host UW-Oshkosh, 3-1, in the opening match of the doubleheader.
The Eagle offense came together and hit a season-high .260 in a dominant win over Wheaton (1-4). Koester, who added seven aces, contributed to a 14-ace performance by the Eagles In their first match of the season in the Midwest. Both Koester and Meister hit over .500 and freshman
Sarah Uczen led the defense with a team-high 11 digs.
It was a tough-go in the first match against host UW-Oshkosh after the Eagles (1-5) mustered a .094 hitting percentage. Senior
Emily Chaussee registered another double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, while Schwenn added one of her own with 12 assists and 10 digs.
The Eagle defense limited the Titan attack to a -.074 hitting percentage in winning the second set, but couldn't corral an offense that hit .260 or better in each of the other three. Meister totaled 12 kills and hit over .500 for the first time this season.
The Eagles head to the UW-Stevens Point Invitational this Saturday, September 9 for a pair of neutral site matches against Ripon College and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.).
