LISLE, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team was limited to six shots and was shutout for the first time in the last five matches in a 2-0 defeat against Benedictine on Saturday night.
A pair of low scoring, grind-it-out teams, who have combined for 14 games decided by one goal this season, expected a battle from the outset. It played out over the course of the first 38 minutes as both teams played to a scoreless tie.
Benedictine (2-9, 2-1 NACC) finally broke through with a rebound goal in the 39th minute to take the early lead. They added to it just after halftime with a free kick score in the 49th.
Chances were limited for Edgewood College (4-6, 0-3 NACC) after attempting only two shots and three corner kicks in the final 31 minutes. Freshman
Yasmine Faouzi gave the Eagles their best look with their third and final shot on goal in the 72nd. Faouzi led an offense that saw six different players take one shot each.
Freshman goalkeeper
Grace Wildeboer suffered the loss for Edgewood College, but totaled five saves. She now has 29 saves in the last four matches and is Top-5 in the NACC with 50 on the season.
The Eagles will look to snap their three-match skid when they face Lakeland University on the road this Wednesday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m.
