Menzia PK propels Eagles to first win

MT. VERNON, Iowa – Senior Hannah Menzia capitalized on a yellow card penalty with her first career penalty kick goal in the 27th minute to give the Edgewood College women's soccer team their first victory of the season over Cornell College on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles (1-1) could've had more after putting eight of their 10 shots on goal in their second straight win over the Rams (0-2). Rams goalie Nell Rosenthal posted a season-high seven saves and opposed the Eagles freshman goalie, Grace Wildeboer, who won her first career match with one save.

Menzia's goal would prove to be the Eagles last good look on offense in the first half. The Eagles put five shots on goal in the final period, including a trio of on-target looks by freshmen Holly Gura and Yasmine Faouzi in the final 10 minutes.

Senior Mariah Walton was the only other Eagle to add a pair of shots on goal for an Eagle attack that featured six players with at least one shot on goal.

The Eagles open up an eight-game homestand starting with Lake Forest College this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. It will take place at Breese Stevens Field.
