Menzia's header lifts Eagles to second win

MADISON, Wis. – For the second straight match, when the Edgewood College women's team needed to win a defensive struggle, they turned to Hannah Menzia. The senior defender stepped forward to snap a wicked header into the top of net to give the Eagles a 1-0 victory over Lake Forest College. It was Menzia's second 1-0 game-winner in a row.

On the night of Edgewood College's (2-1) home opener the Eagles held on to a scoreless tie into the 75th minute. A Lake Forest College (0-3) miscue resulted in a corner kick for Lauren Clark. Clark laced a cross just above the penalty mark, where Menzia elevated between two Forester defenders. Her header beat Lake Forest goalkeeper Caroline Campbell, but looked as if a Forester defender on the back post might have a chance to make a play on it. However, the defender only got a piece of the ball as it bounced into the roof of the net for a 1-0 lead.

On the other end of the field, freshman goalkeeper Grace Wildeboer made seven saves to earn her second consecutive clean sheet. Wildeboer came up big with two saves in the final six minutes of the game, as Lake Forest pressed forward looking for the equalizing goal.

Lake Forest led the Eagles in shots, by a 15-5 margin, including the seven shots on the Eagles' net. Menzia accounted for three of Edgewood College's shots with Mady Warda and Alisha Nolden recording the other two.

Wednesday's match at Breese Stevens Field was the first in an eight-match home stand spanning most of the rest of September. The Eagles will play again on Saturday against North Central College (Ill.) in a match at Goodman Pitch-East on the campus of Madison College.
