Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Nolden, Wildeboer give Eagles 1-0 win

MADISON, Wis. – Grinnell College had the majority of the shots, but the Edgewood College women's soccer team converted the only opportunity they needed in a 1-0 victory over the Pioneers on Sunday afternoon. Alisha Nolden finished off a wild scramble in front of the net, and freshman goalkeeper Grace Wildeboer made eight saves to give the Eagles their second straight victory.

Grinnell College (2-4) had a majority of the early action, getting off three shots and forcing two Wildeboer saves in the first 12 minutes. The Eagles got the goal they needed as the clock struck the 20th minute of the game. Shannon Kaufmann started the sequence with a cross into the box. The Pioneers attempted to clear, but the ball rattled around between bodies, until it squirted free to Madelyn Peach. Peach's shot from 12 yards, struck the crossbar and bounced out toward Nolden. Nolden reached out away from the goal and flicked the ball back toward the net, where it eluded the Grinnell goalkeepers and two defenders. It was Nolden's second goal in as many games and the 14th of her career.

From there, the Edgewood College (4-3) defense and Wildeboer did the rest. The Eagles fended off four shots in the final five minutes of the first half from Grinnell College's Quinn Berleman-Paul. In the second half, Grinnell College's Simona Bambi rifled a shot from distance in the 67th minute, but Wildeboer lept and pushed it over the bar to preserve the shutout. The Eagles defense led by Hannah Menzia, Jamie Hess, Sarah Deininger and Holly Gura limited the Pioneers to two shots over the last 20 minutes.

Edgewood College will open their NACC season next Wednesday with a home game against MSOE. The Eagles and Raiders will kickoff at Breese Stevens Field at 7:00 p.m.
