MADISON, Wis. – After battling to a scoreless tie and despite putting seven of their eight shots on goal, the Edgewood College women's soccer team was literally beat by Beloit's last minute goal in the 89th minute of a 1-0 defeat on Wednesday night.
Both teams struggled to get going offensively in the first half with seven combined shots, but the Eagles (2-3) came alive in the second. Freshman
Madelyn Peach put two shots on goal and senior
Hannah Menzia added another in the first 11 minutes of the final period. They dominated possession for most of the second half and put all four of their shots on goal, but it was the Buccaneers (2-4) who made their only second half shot count.
Beloit's Alexis Miller fed a long pass from beyond midfield to a streaking Genesis Dade just outside the goalie box, who then proceeded to score the only goal of the match after winning the one-on-one battle with the Eagle defender up the middle. Dade has scored four of the Bucs eight goals this season. It was only the Bucs third win in 15 meetings against the Eagles.
Peach led the Eagle offense with two shots, both on goal, and Eagle goalkeeper
Grace Wildeboer registered two saves in defeat. It was the Eagles second one-goal loss of the season.
The Eagles face Maranatha Baptist this Saturday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Edgewood High School.
