APPLETON, Wis. – The new look Edgewood College men's soccer team continued their offensive fireworks on Wednesday night at the Banta Bowl. The Eagles scored three times in the first half and blanked host Lawrence University 3-0 to earn their second straight victory. With four wins already this season, the Eagles are more than halfway to last year's win total of seven.
Edgewood College (4-1) peppered the Lawrence goal early and often with five shots, including two on goal in the first 15 minutes. In the 20th minute, the Eagles broke through. Sean Surtees played a through ball to Nicholas Bilodeau, who sent it across the middle to Garrett Lee. Lee fired a shot to the left of Vikings keeper Julien Riviere, who managed a hand on it but couldn't keep it out of the net. It was Lee's third goal of the season.
Just two minutes later, the Eagles doubled their margin. Surtees played the ball forward to Luke Miller, who caught the Riviere off his line with a nifty, one-touch chip shot from 20 yards out that settled in the upper left corner of the net. It appeared the Eagles would carry that margin into halftime, but Riley Moore, set up by Tim Schiemer and Victor Lombarino scored a 44th minute goal to make it 3-0 in the Eagles' favor. It was Moore's first collegiate goal.
Edgewood College's defense and goalkeeper Dan Dombrowski kept the Vikings off the board in the second half. The Eagles' defense surrendered only two shots in the first 35 minutes of the second half. Dombrowski finished with three saves, including two in the final five minutes of the match to preserve the shutout.
Edgewood College will play, possibly for the first time ever, on their Monroe Street campus on Saturday. The Eagles will host Ripon College at 1:00 p.m. at Edgewood High School's Goodman Athletic Complex.
