DE PERE, Wis. – St. Norbert College made an early goal hold up for more than 86 minutes in a season-opening defensive struggle against Edgewood College. The Green Knights scored in the fourth minute and hung on for a 1-0 victory in the season opener for both teams.
Monica Stephans put St. Norbert College (1-0) ahead with a hard shot from the top of the box, just barely over three minutes into the game. Neither team found much in the way of offense as the game totaled just 10 shots, including only six on goal.
Mady Warda led the Eagles with two shots, while Alisha Nolden and Holly Gura accounted for one each. Freshman Grace Wildeboer made her first career start in goal for the Eagles totaling four saves on the night.
Edgewood College will return to action on Sunday with a road trip to Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
