OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Edgewood College dropped their final regular season non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. UW-Oshkosh used a four-run third inning to open up a 5-0 lead on their way to a 6-1 victory. Danny Appino had two hits in the game for the Eagles, as the team prepares for a do-or-die final NACC doubleheader vs. Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday.
UW-Oshkosh (22-14) picked up a run in the first inning without the benefit of a hit off Eagle starter Mason Maziarka. In the third the Titan's Tyler Kozlowski and Johnny Eagen hit back-to-back doubles to spark a four-run rally. Alex Meister entered to get the final out of the inning for the Eagles.
UW-Oshkosh had made it 6-0 before Edgewood College (19-17) got on the board in the top of the eighth inning. Nick Lehner hit a lead off single to left field and was lifted for pinch runner Ryan Cassady. Cassady stole second base and then moved to third on a ground ball from Tim Nunn. Nick Cheaney then drove in the Eagles only run of the game with an RBI groundout to the shortstop.
Appino went 2-for-4 with a stolen base to lead the Edgewood College offense. His 44th career stolen base ties him with Ryan Klemko (2001-04) for seventh on the Eagles all-time list. Jeff Tucker had a double in a pinch-hit appearance for the team's only extra base hit of the day. Maziarka slipped to 2-3 on the season, allowing five runs in 2.2 innings. After Meister, a group of four pitchers: Ryan Howell, Jake Sawinski, Mitch Egan and Rory Mulvihill held the Titans scoreless over the final four innings.
Edgewood College can still gain access to the NACC Tournament, but it will take a sharp outing against second place Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday for LSM Chiropractic Senior Day at Stampfl Field. The Eagles must win at least one and preferably both games against the Falcons and then watch the scoreboard to see if they can steal their first NACC Tournament berth since 2015.
