VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College softball team dropped a pair of games to Benedictine, 11-0, and 12-2, on Saturday afternoon.
Edgewood College (2-18, 0-6 NACC) mustered just three hits against Benedictine starter Holly Haberkorn (12-2), including one each by Karly Vigani, Grace Delleman, and Hanna Parisi, but it wasn't enough against a Benedictine offense that pounded out 13 hits.
Benedictine surged to a 7-0 lead through the first three innings and finished it off with a four-run fifth-inning. Haberkorn tied a team-high with three RBI.
Eagle starter Shannon Whitmus (2-14) tossed 5.0 innings and allowed nine earned runs.
The Eagles dropped game two to Benedictine, 12-2, after the visitors took advantage of a two-out error in the third inning to score seven unearned runs and break open a close game.
Parisi and outfielder Alyssa Hickey lofted back-to-back RBI singles out of the infield in the bottom of the second to cut their deficit to 3-2, prior to Benedictine's breakout inning that featured four singles, seven runs, and three errors. First baseman Jordan Anderson, returning from a 5-game absence due to injury, and shortstop Elizabeth Soter both scored for Edgewood College.
Benedictine's Haberkorn allowed just two earned runs, picked up her second win of the day, and finished 3-for-4 with one run and a game-high four RBI at the plate.
Eagle starter Grace Delleman (0-3) surrendered five earned runs in 4.2 innings.
Benedictine, who was picked to finish second in the NACC preseason poll, won for the 18th straight time in the series.
Edgewood College faces NACC preseason favorite, Aurora University, in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader starting at noon at Ceniti Park in Verona, Wis.
