ROCKFORD, Ill. – Despite one of their best shooting performances of the year, the Edgewood College women's basketball team couldn't overcome a turnover-prone second half in a 72-54 defeat at Rockford University on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Sidney Peach scored eight of her team-high 12 points in a strong first half where the Eagles (0-21, 0-16 NACC) outshot Rockford and held the hosts to 32 percent shooting and forced 10 turnovers. The Eagles led 31-26 at the break thanks to a 20-point first quarter, one of their highest scoring of the year.
The second half was a different story as the Regents (7-14, 5-11 NACC) outscored the Eagles, 46-23, and won the turnover battle, 12-3.
Peach's jumper with 6:19 to go in the third gave the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 40-31, but the Regents ended the period on a 21-4 run to take the lead for good and led by eight points heading into the fourth quarter.
Marissa Hoyer narrowly missed her first career double-double with nine points and a game-high 12 boards and helped lead an Eagle offense that posted their second-highest shooting percentage of the season (38.9). The Eagles shot just 1-of-15 from three-point land, but a shade over 50 percent on two-pointers.
Rockford's Taylor May led four Regents in double figures with 21 points and finished 8-for-23 from the field. The Regents shot 8-for-16 from downtown and won for the second time in their last three games.
Next up for the Eagles is Senior Night for Peach and Hoyer this Tuesday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. against Marian University. The Eagles played their closest game of the year against the Sabres in a 55-48 defeat on January 11.
