MEQUON, Wis. – Freshman Cali Twet scored a game-high 15 points and junior Marissa Hoyer nearly secured her first double-double, but the Edgewood College women's basketball team couldn't generate enough offense against Concordia Wisconsin in a 80-39 defeat on Wednesday night.
Hoyer, who fell short of her first career double-double for the fourth-straight game with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds, converted both of the Eagles (0-24, 0-19 NACC) first quarter buckets as they dug themselves a 21-4 hole after the first period. The Eagle offense mustered 35 points over the final three quarters against the NACC's stingiest defense, but couldn't catch a Falcon team that led 42-16 at half and 62-26 though three quarters.
Twet came alive offensively after finishing 6-for-14 from the field, including 5-of-7 from two-point range, and led the team in scoring for the first time since New Year's Eve.
The Eagles had one of their best rebounding games of the season and matched a season-high with 16 offensive boards. It led to a 16-11 advantage in second-chance points, but couldn't overcome a 46-4 disparity in points off the bench and a 28 percent shooting performance from the field.
Audrey Scharmer matched Hoyer with 13 points and nine boards and led four Falcons in double digits as Concordia Wisconsin won its 13th straight game against the Eagles. The Falcons (20-4, 17-2 NACC) clinched their second-straight NACC regular season championship with tonight's victory and a loss by Benedictine.
The Eagles face Aurora on the road this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in their season finale. Aurora won the first matchup, 62-51, in the Edgedome on January 28.
