Big first half run lifts Falcons past Eagles

MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's basketball teamed trimmed Concordia University Wisconsin's lead to single digits multiple times in the second half, but ultimately fell 83-62 on Tuesday night. The Eagles couldn't overcome a 19-0 first half run by the Falcons.

Edgewood College (5-19, 5-14 NACC) got a pair of three-pointers from Adam Freitag and baskets by McClain Steffens and Tyler Lemke for a 10-6 lead, before the Falcons went on their run. Concordia University Wisconsin (14-9, 12-6 NACC) scored the next 19 points to take a commanding 25-10 lead. The Eagles would eventually trail 43-27 at the half.

Lemke and Sy Staver combined to score the Eagles first 12 points of the second half, to bring the Eagles to within eight points to 47-39. After the Falcons, pushed their back out to 58-42, the Eagles went on a 10-2 capped by three-pointers from Spencer Barnes and Steffens, to stay within striking distance at 60-52 with 8:24 left to play. That would be as close as the Eagles would get however, as the Falcons pulled away for the victory.

Tyler Lemke scored in double figures for the 12th time in the last 13 games, leading the Eagles with 18 points. Steffens and Arik Anderson scored nine points each with Steffens adding a game-high eight rebounds. Freitag scored eight points, including two three-point baskets.

Concordia University Wisconsin had four starters in double figures led by Eric Kittel who had 17 points, including five three-pointers to go along with seven assists. The Falcons shot 46 percent from the field, hitting 11 three-pointers including seven in the first half.

Edgewood College will close the 2016-17 season on Saturday with a game at Aurora University. The Eagles and Spartans will tipoff the final game of the regular season at 4:15 p.m.
