MADISON ,Wis. –Sophomore Tyler Lemke delivered another big performance of 31 points on 10-for-12 shooting, but the Edgewood College men's basketball team couldn't keep up with Benedictine's high octane offense in a 107-67 defeat on Senior Day.
Lemke, who is averaging 30.3 points in his last three games, and the rest of the Eagles (5-18, 5-13 NACC) allowed Benedictine to shoot 56.8 percent from the floor and were outrebounded 52-22 in their fourth straight defeat of the series.
Lemke scored 14 of his team's first 18 points as the Eagles trailed Benedictine, 27-18, at the nine-minute mark of the first half. Benedictine (20-4, 18-1 NACC) pulled away with a 14-1 run and went into the break with a 47-24 advantage. This year's NACC regular season champions outrebounded the Eagles, 30-11, in the first half, and led by as many as 42 points after halftime.
Eagle seniors, Spencer Barnes, Adam Freitag, and Jim Bridges, were honored pregame and all started their final home game in the Edgedome. Barnes scored 11 points, Freitag added nine points, and Bridges finished with three rebounds and two assists.
Led by three, three-pointers each by Barnes, Freitag, and Lemke, the Eagles tied a season-best with 12 three-point makes. Freitag's final make from long range gave him 126 career three-point makes and moves him into 10th all-time in school history.
Benedictine's Tahron Harvey led three Eagles with double-doubles after scoring 28 points on 11-for-16 shooting to go with 10 boards and a game-high six assists. Adam Reynolds added 20 points and 12 boards for a Benedictine offense that scored 100 or more points for the sixth time this season.
Next up for the Eagles is a matchup at Concordia Wisconsin next Tuesday on Valentine's Day at 7:00 p.m.
