Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Gordon scores double-double at MSOE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Despite an outstanding defensive second quarter, the Edgewood College women's basketball team couldn't muster enough offense to defeat MSOE. The Raiders regrouped to shoot 42.9 percent in the second half to defeat the Eagles 51-31 at the Kern Center on Wednesday night. Allison Gordon turned in her third double-double of the season.

Edgewood College (0-20, 0-15 NACC) trailed 15-4 after the first quarter, but climbed back into the game by holding the Raiders to just three points in the second. Marissa Hoyer and Gordon scored baskets to get the Eagles rolling. After an MSOE free throw, Mackenzie Meyers converted twice from the free throw line and Gordon added another basket. MSOE (9-11, 6-9 NACC) scored their first basket of the quarter with 48 seconds left, before Meyers sunk two more free throws to cut the Eagles' deficit to 18-14.

The Raiders kicked their offense into high gear, scoring the first 11 points in the third quarter. Meyers and Sidney Peach ended the Eagles drought with baskets on consecutive possessions, to stay within 29-18, but that's as close as Edgewood College would get.

Gordon scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and second against MSOE. Gordon went 7-for-10 from the free throw line. Meyers had seven points and seven rebounds. The Eagles made a season-high 15 free throws on 20 attempts in the game.

MSOE's Holly Denfeld did it all for the Raiders, scoring 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, surpassing 1,000 career rebounds. The Raiders shot just 35.8 percent in the game, but made 10 of 11 free throws.

Edgewood College heads back out on the road on Saturday to face Rockford University. The Eagles and Regents will tip off in the Seaver Center at 2:00 p.m.
