MADISON, Wis. – Junior Emil Radisevic was nearly unstoppable down low with a career-high 29 points on 11 of 15 shooting and 13 rebounds and nearly made the game-tying three in the dying seconds of an 84-80 overtime defeat against MSOE on Wednesday night. Neither side led by more than six points in a hotly contested match that saw a season-high 14 ties and 20 lead changes.
Senior Travis Kell added 15 points and 12 boards and combined with Radisevic for 25 of the Eagles 32 points and over half the team's rebounds in a dominant second half. Along with some timely free throws from their teammates down the stretch, the duo nearly carried the Eagles to the win.
Tied up at 72 apiece going into overtime after a wild string of events to end regulation, Radisevic nailed a short jumper from inside the top of the key to give the Eagles (1-6, 1-3 NACC) the early two-point advantage. MSOE's Sammy Lin answered with a 3-pointer and the NACC-leading Raiders (4-2, 4-1 NACC) led the rest of the way. With 22 seconds to go, things got interesting.
The Eagles' Jake Negus put home a short jumper to cut the MSOE lead to 82-80. MSOE responded by making one of two free throws to set up a potential game-winner with 14 seconds left. Radisevic had an open look from the top of the key, but his only 3-point attempt of the night subtly grazed off the front of the rim into an awaiting Raider defender. MSOE capped their sixth win over the Eagles in the last seven games with a free throw and a defensive stop.
Sy Staver made all four of his free throws in the final two minutes of regulation and made way for an Arik Anderson free throw that put the Eagles up 72-70 with 15 seconds to go. MSOE milked the clock and sent the game into overtime with a Sammy Lin finger roll with four seconds left.
Despite the loss, Radisevic was a force inside in his best game as an Eagle. The Brookfield, Wis. native also converted 7 of 9 free throws en route to cruising past his previous career-high of 18 points during his freshman season.
The Eagles shot a blistering 59.3 percent in the first half and led 40-39 at the break, but were held to under 35 percent in the second half and overtime periods. It was the second time in the last three games the Eagles have come up short in overtime.
Jason Palesse led the Raiders with 19 points, including three free throw makes in the overtime period, and was one of four double-digit scorers. Lin, who made the game-tying layup in regulation, finished with 15 points and three rebounds. The Raiders shot just 16-for-27 (59.3 percent) from the free throw line and nearly burned a four-point lead after shooting 7 of 12 in the overtime period.
Next up is a matchup with Marian this Saturday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m. as the Eagles look to snap a three-game skid.
