Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Shooting touch elusive in Eagles loss to Ripon

RIPON, Wis. – Offensive woes and a motivated Ripon College team opening their newly remodeled facility spelled a second straight loss for the Edgewood College men's basketball team. The Red Hawks never trailed in a 67-48 victory in the first men's basketball game at Weiske Gymnasium. Edgewood College freshman Ben Seefeld turned in a breakout performance with 17 points in the loss.

Ripon College (1-0) jumped out to a 11-2 lead as the Eagles missed on seven of their first eight shots. Edgewood College (0-2) began to get back in the game in the final seven minutes of the first half. Travis Kell and Seefeld alternated baskets, and Seefeld added a three-point play to trim the Red Hawks lead to 29-18. Arik Anderson hit a three-point shot with two minutes remaining, but Ripon College still owned a 39-22 halftime lead.

McClain Steffens and Seefeld combined to score 17 of the Eagles' first 19 points of the second half, but Edgewood College couldn't cut significantly into Ripon's lead. Sy Staver brought the Eagles within 15 points with a three-point shot 5:35 left to play, but the Edgewood College wouldn't close the margin any further. Kell scored what turned out to be the final field goal of the game with 3:49 to go.

Seefeld went 6-for-7 from the field with his first career three-pointer in scoring 17 points. Anderson and Steffens finished with seven points each, while Emil Radisevic pulled down five rebounds. Edgewood College shot 38 percent from the field for the contest.

Ripon College was led by Isaac Masters who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. Cal Schultz chipped in 13 points. The Red Hawks built their lead by shooting 48.2 percent in the first half.

Edgewood College will be on the road again on Wednesday night, still searching for their first win. The Eagles will face UW-Oshkosh at the Kolf Sports Center. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
