MADISON, Wis. – Four first-half goals by MSOE, including three scores within a two-minute span, was too much to overcome as the Edgewood College women's soccer team lost to MSOE, 4-0, on Monday night.
It didn't take much for the Raiders (6-7, 4-1 NACC), who were making their second trip to Madison after the originally scheduled match on September 20 was postponed due to lightning, to get going. Despite a slow start that saw the first shot attempt by either side 10 minutes into the match, Brooke Zidek scored the game's opening goal in the 19th minute with a strike just inside the 18-yard box.
The Eagles would surrender two more goals in the next two minutes off an Eagle own goal into the box on a Raider corner kick and another goal by Zidek inside the 18-yard box at the 21-minute mark. The Raiders would score again shortly before halftime.
Despite the deficit, the Eagles (5-8, 1-5 NACC) continued to battle in the second half and put three of their seven shots on goal. Olivia De Castro nearly prevented the shutout with a screaming goal that required a diving stop by MSOE's Abbie Lorenz at the beginning of the second.
De Castro led the team with three shots, all on goal, and goalkeeper Grace Wildeboer totaled five saves in defeat.
The Eagles face Wisconsin Lutheran on the road this Wednesday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. in a must-win match to keep their faint NACC tournament hopes alive.
