MADISON, Wis. – Junior Alisha Nolden tied it up in the 65th, but Concordia Chicago quickly countered in the 71st as the Edgewood College women's soccer team lost to the Cougars for the first time in 14 meetings, 2-1, on Saturday night.
Down 1-0 for a majority of the match after the Cougars (4-7-2, 3-2 NACC) scored in the 15th, Nolden booted in the equalizer off Lauren Clark's free kick in the 65th minute. It was her team-leading fifth goal of the season, all in the last seven matches, that came right in front of the goalie after Clark's assist curled right into the 6-yard box. The tie wouldn't last long.
The Cougars took control a little over six minutes later thanks to a Megan Vasseur header off a corner kick. It was Vasseur's first goal of the season and fourth game-winning score of the year for a Cougar team that has won its three conference matches by the combined score of 11-1.
In 13 previous meetings, the Eagles (5-7, 1-4 NACC) outscored the Cougars, 70-7, but it was Concordia Chicago who won the tight battle tonight. The Cougars outshot the Eagles, 10-5, and put seven shots on goal.
Eagle goalkeeper Grace Wildeboer (5-7) registered five saves in defeat on a rainy, misty night at Breese Stevens Field.
The Eagles face MSOE at home this Monday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. in a rescheduled match.
