MEQUON, Wis. – Despite winning the first set, 25-16, in convincing fashion, the Edgewood College volleyball team saw their four-match win streak snapped against Concordia Wisconsin, 3-1 (16-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21), in battle of unbeaten NACC teams on Friday night.
Senior Renee Meister had another strong performance and hit. 350, but was the only Eagle to amass 10 kills in a tough offensive night. The Eagles (9-11, 4-1 NACC) hit just .097 on the match and utilized their defense to take the first set from the NACC-leading Falcons (19-2, 5-0 NACC). Concordia Wisconsin was limited to a -.030 hitting percentage and finished with five kills against six errors as the Eagles cruised by the defending NACC champions, 25-16, to take the early lead.
Offensively, the Eagles went cold and hit a combined .013 in sets three and four en route to a 2-1 deficit. Both teams found their groove in a back-and-forth final set that featured 10 ties and five lead changes. Tori Wiskow's kill tied it up at 17 apiece, but the Falcons responded with three straight points and never looked back as the Eagles were handed their first conference loss of the season.
Despite nearly setting a new season-high with 30 errors on offense, the Eagles battled the Falcons in a match that saw 27 ties and 12 lead changes. The Eagles also handed the Falcons only their seventh set loss in 21 matches this season.
Freshman Sarah Uczen finished with a match-high 23 digs and four aces and led a serving contingent that racked up 11 aces on the night.
The Eagles face MSOE on the road tomorrow at noon in Milwaukee.
