MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team wasn't about to let their two seniors lose their final game at Breese Stevens Field. Alisha Nolden and Lauren Clark both scored twice, as the Eagles gave seniors Hannah Menzia and Mariah Walton a 5-0 victory over Alverno College on Wednesday night. The Eagles also kept their NACC Tournament hopes alive with the victory.
Nolden took just a little more than 12 minutes to scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season. In the 10th minute, Mady Warda served a cross from the left, and Nolden's header banked off the right post and in for an early 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Olivia De Castro played Nolden in behind the defense and all alone with Alverno College (1-14, 0-7 NACC) goalkeeper Allison Weick. Weick went down for the ball, but Nolden pushed it to her left and finished into the empty net for a 2-0 Eagles lead.
Edgewood College (7-9, 3-6 NACC) netted one more goal before halftime, and again it was set up by De Castro. Her long, diagonal pass found Clark cutting in from the right wing. Weick charged, but Clark slid the ball under the diving keeper where it rolled gently into the net. For Clark, it was her first goal of the season, but it wouldn't be her last.
In the 65th minute, Nolden played a beautiful, bending pass around an Inferno defender to the foot of Clark. Clark rifled a shot that Weick got her hands on, but couldn't stop from reaching the back of the net. The Eagles finished off the scoring in the 85th minute. Ashley Siegel beat her defender on the right wing, and slid a short pass to Carrie Radomsky. Radomsky's one-touch shot lifted over the keeper's head and into the far corner of the net, for her second goal of the season.
Edgewood College totaled 27 shots, including 19 on goal, while Alverno College managed four shots for the game. Eagle goalkeeper Grace Wildeboer needed to make just one save to earn her seventh shutout of the season. All seven of the Eagles' wins have been shutouts.
Edgewood College's next game will be a non-conference road game at UW-Stevens Point, on Sunday, October 22.
