MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Junior Marissa Hoyer scored a career-high 19 points, but it wasn't enough as the Edgewood College women's basketball team lost at NACC leader Wisconsin Lutheran, 64-42, on Tuesday night.
Despite an improved shooting performance by the Eagles (0-18, 0-13 NACC), the inside presence of Jen Dowden and the rest of the Warriors (11-5, 11-1 NACC) was too much as they completed the season sweep. Dowden, who leads the NACC in scoring at over 20 points per game, added 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting as the Warriors posted 38 of their 64 points in the painted area.
Hoyer shot 7-for-16 from the floor to go with six rebounds and did her best to counter a Warrior attack that shot nearly 60 percent on their two-point shots and 50 percent overall. Hoyer went off for a career-high after scoring a combined three points in her previous two games and led an offense that shot 32 percent.
The Eagles trailed 56-20 through three quarters, but exploded for one of their best quarters of the season in outscoring the Warriors, 22-8, in the final period.
Freshman Aleigha Sigafus added a team-high eight rebounds for the Eagles and scored five points.
Dowden led three Warriors in double figures, including a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double by Maddy Elrod and a 10-point showing by Alyssa Shipley. It was the 12th straight victory against the Eagles as they improved to 34-23 in the all-time series.
Next up the Eagles host Aurora (3-15, 2-11 NACC) this Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. in the Edgedome.
