RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College men's basketball team split the season series after falling in a rare Sunday afternoon matchup at Concordia Chicago, 81-63, in their second game in as many days.
Down just 39-31 at the break, the Cougars (4-13, 3-11 NACC) broke a five-game losing streak thanks to a 15-8 run to open up the second half. It put the Eagles (4-13, 4-8 NACC) in a 54-39 rut as they trailed by double digits the rest of the game and by as much as 29 points down the stretch.
Despite being outscored just 42-32 in the second half, the Eagles shot 32 percent and allowed the Cougar offense to shoot 47 percent from the field while forcing only two turnovers. The tough second half stretch could have been attributed to playing their second of back-to-back road games for the first time this season.
The Eagles, without the services of their leading rebounder and interior threat Emil Radisevic, were visibly affected down low after being outrebounded, 48-34, and outscored in the paint, 40-20. They allowed a game-high 22 points and 15 boards on 9-of-17 shooting from Cougar forward Jarek Hotwagner and 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting from forward Israel Dosie.
Adam Freitag paced three Eagles in double figures with 12 points and converted 4-of-7 three-pointers. Tyler Lemke, coming off a career-high 23 points on Saturday, added 11 points. Kyle Geiger also scored 11 points to lead a strong 29-point effort by the Eagle bench.
Today's game was a makeup date from the originally scheduled game in December and was the first Sunday conference matchup in all of the NACC this season.
The Eagles will face MSOE at home on Wednesday, January 2 at 7:00 p.m. in a must-win game to stay in NACC tournament contention.
