RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team fell behind in the first quarter and were unable to recover, in falling to Dominican University 66-32. The Eagles never led as the Stars snapped a six-game losing streak to Edgewood College.
Edgewood College (0-17, 0-12 NACC) scored on their first two possessions to tie the game at 4-4. Sidney Peach hit an 18-foot jumper off a kick-out from Allison Gordon, and then Gordon rebounded Peach's miss and put it back. However, Dominican University (5-11, 4-8 NACC) got a three-point basket from Claudia Denigris to take the lead for good. The Eagles played the second quarter more evenly as Gordon scored six points, but Edgewood College trailed 30-14 at the break.
Dominican scored the first eight points off the third quarter, until MacKenzie Meyers stopped the run with a three-point play. Meg Mengert hit a three-pointer and Morgan Michaels drained a shot from half court to beat the third quarter buzzer, but it wouldn't be enough to avoid the loss.
Gordon led the Eagles in scoring with 10 points, while Aleigha Sigafus came off the bench to add six points and a team-high six rebounds. Peach and Michaels had five points apiece.
Edgewood College will stay on the road for their next game, facing current NACC leader Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday night in Milwaukee.
