MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team was held to a season-low 17.9 percent from the field in a 64-32 defeat against Lakeland in the Edgedome on Wednesday night.
Despite the constant pressure from Lakeland's full-court press, the Eagles (0-16, 0-11 NACC) turned it over just six times, but were hampered by their 5-of-30 performance (16.7 percent) from the field en route to a 35-19 halftime deficit. The Eagles created plenty of good looks, but couldn't find the bottom of the basket against a Lakeland team that swept the Eagles for the second-straight year.
The Eagles outscored the Muskies (11-5, 9-2 NACC), 11-10, in the final period, but trailed by as many as 41 points midway through the fourth as Lakeland stretched its lead throughout the second half.
Sophomore Allison Gordon paced the Eagles with eight points and junior Marissa Hoyer pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Freshman Morgan Michaels scored five points and finished 2-for-4 from the field and was the only Eagle to shoot above 40 percent. Her jumper with five seconds remaining was the 10th and final field goal make of the game for the Eagles.
It was the toughest shooting night of the year for the Eagles as they finished 10 of 56 shooting overall (17.9 percent) and 4-for-26 (15.4 percent) from three-point land.
Led by Bailey Grayvold's 20 points and five steals on 6-of-10 shooting, the Muskies stole the ball 13 times and scored 24 points off 21 Eagle turnovers. Rachel Stankevich added 16 points and six rebounds while finishing 8-of-13 from the floor as she and Grayvold combined to outscore the Eagles by themselves.
The Eagles hit the road to take on Dominican this Saturday, January 21 at 2:00 p.m. in their only matchup with the Stars (4-11, 3-8 NACC) this season.
