MADISON, Wis. – Senior Sidney Peach knocked down each of her first five shots en route to a career-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, but the Edgewood College women's basketball team dropped their rematch to Alverno, 68-44, on Saturday afternoon.
Peach scored five of the Eagles (0-15, 0-10 NACC) first nine points as they raced out to a 13-12 first quarter lead. Fueled by six points from Karli Selear, the Inferno (6-9, 6-4 NACC) responded with a 12-0 run to start the second quarter and took the lead for good. The Eagles cut the Alverno lead to six points on Peach's 3-pointer midway through the third, but it was as close as they would come the rest of the way as the Inferno finished the quarter on a 16-6 run.
Peach knocked down four of her six three-point attempts and dished out two assists to surpass her previous career best of 11 points set earlier this year. Sophomore Allison Gordon added 14 points and seven boards on 5-of-11 shooting.
Led by 17 points from center Mollie Mikyska and a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double form Donna Zehner, the Inferno scored 23 points on 19 Eagle turnovers and shot 45.5 percent from the floor, their second-highest mark this year.
