Grable’s clutch goal gives Eagles breakthrough win

MADISON, Wis. – Senior midfielder Stevie Grable scored from near point blank range in the 86th minute to give the Eagles their first win in 13 meetings against UW-Stevens Point.

With a flair for the dramatic, the Eagles (2-1) claimed their second-straight victory after scoring the game-winner in the last 10 minutes. Both sides had their opportunities from the outset, but Grable's first goal of the season off senior Taylor Pampuch's assist from the top of the box proved to be the difference.

Grable and Pampuch applied pressure all afternoon as both registered three shots each and a combined four shots on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Sabelle Seabrook earned her second straight shutout and withstood a relentless Pointer attack down the stretch. The second team All-NACC goalie produced three saves in the final 11 minutes, none more crucial than her diving effort in the 87th.

The Eagles held the upper hand in shots, 13-12, but the Pointers (0-4) enjoyed a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Most of the on-target shots were launched right at both goalkeepers, who held their own despite slippery conditions from a steady rain in the first half.

With their goal tonight, the Eagles scored against the Pointers for the first time in 13 meetings and improved to 1-12 in the all-time series.

The Eagles will cap off their three-game homestand this Sunday, September 11 at 12:00 p.m. against North Park University.
