Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Schneider blanks Judson for first career shutout

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team proved that quality of shots often matters more than quantity of shots. Behind an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Ethan Schneider, the Eagles upended Judson University 2-0, despite being outshot by a more than a 2-to-1 ratio. The win marked the Eagles second straight victory in a four-game season-opening road trip.

Edgewood College (2-1) survived a 12-3 margin of shots in Judson's favor thanks to Schneider's work in the box.  The sophomore from Appleton turned away seven shots on goal in just the first half to hold the game scoreless. Nicholas Bilodeau managed two of the Eagles' three shots in the first half, putting one on net.

Just over three minutes into the second half, Zander Rothering gave the Eagles the lead. Rothering dribbled through the right side of the penalty area and unleashed a shot beating Judson goalkeeper Adrian Padilla for a 1-0 lead. It was Rothering first goal of the season. Judson University (0-2-2) turned up the pressure, with four shots over the next 15 minutes, but it was the Eagles who scored next anyway. Sean Surtees tallied his second goal in two games in the 66th minute to give Edgewood College a 2-0 advantage.

Judson University continued to apply pressure, but Schneider added two more second saves and received some friendly help from the goal post in the 78th minute to record his first career solo shutout. His nine save were also a career-high.

Edgewood College will attempt to keep the good vibes rolling into this weekend with two more non-conference matches. The Eagles will get an early morning wake-up call for a 9:00 a.m. game on Saturday at Maranatha Baptist, and then finally enter Breese Stevens Field for their home opener on Sunday afternoon against North Park University.
