MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team knew the first few games of the NACC season were going to be a difficult test. MSOE continued the lesson for the young Eagles team on Wednesday night, defeating Edgewood College 3-0 at Viets Field.
MSOE (4-4, 1-0 NACC) grabbed an early lead with two goals inside the first 20 minutes. First Braden Andryk scored on a penalty kick in the 14th minute, then Drew Baumann headed in a corner kick in the 19th minute to give the Raiders the advantage. Edgewood College's defense held firm the remainder of the half. The Eagles' Henry Simon got off the team's only shot on goal in the first half, which was saved by MSOE's Ryan Snyder.
Edgewood College (3-5, 0-2 NACC) applied more pressure in the second half, getting the first two shots on net from Simon and Garrett Lee. MSOE's Andryk scored again in the 59th minute, but the Eagles maintained pressure. Edgewood College's best stretch of offense came from two shots on goal, by Lee in the 71st minute and Jesse Greenwood in the 74th minute.
In all Simon and Lee each registered three shots, two of which were on goal. Greenwood was also credited with two shots. The Eagles were outshot just 14-9 for the game. Edgewood College goalkeeper Ethan Schneider made five saves on the night.
The Eagles will return home in an attempt to break their current four-match losing streak. Edgewood College will host Benedictine University on Saturday afternoon at Oregon High School. That match will begin at 1:30 p.m.
