BELOIT, Wis. – Despite grabbing the early lead on senior forward Emily Skaer's first goal of the season, the Edgewood College women's team saw their three-game winning streak come to an end in a 2-1 double overtime defeat at Beloit College on Tuesday afternoon.
Skaer found the back of the net off Carley Hanko's assist in the 20th minute to take the 1-0 lead, but the Buccaneers (1-3) tied it up in the 52nd and knocked home the game winner in the 107th minute. Coming off a double-overtime win on Sunday, the Eagles (3-2) came out on the wrong side against Beloit despite their 15-3 advantage in corner kicks, including an 11-0 disparity in the second half of regulation.
It was the Eagles seventh straight game decided by one goal, a school record, as they nearly pulled off their fourth-straight win. Skaer, who attempted a season-high six shots with four on goal, led an Eagle attack that outshot Beloit in every period except the second overtime.
The Eagles have dominated the all-time series thus far, 12-2, and have outscored the Buccaneers, 49-11. Coach Alexander and Co. were going for their 13th straight victory over the Buccaneers.
Next up for the Eagles is a home game at Reddan Soccer Park in Verona, Wis. in their NACC opener against Aurora University this Saturday, September 17 at 11:00 a.m.
