Eagles split pair of matches at UWP Invite

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Edgewood College volleyball team played their final two matches before NACC play begins next week by splitting a pair of matches at the UW-Platteville Invitational. The Eagles played their fourth five-set match of the falling to Carleton College 3-2, but rebounded for a 3-0 sweep over Buena Vista University in their second match.

Against Carleton College (7-1) the Eagles battled from one set down twice, but lost a dramatic fifth set 16-14. Emily Chaussee led four Eagles in double digit kills with 16 for the match. Elizabeth Evans had 13 kills, Renee Meister totaled 12 and Savannah Koester had 11 for the Eagles. Chaussee also led the Eagles with 19 digs for her fifth double-double in eight matches this season. Haley Schwenn scored 24 assists.

In the second match, Edgewood College (4-4) swept Buena Vista University (5-3) but each set was closely contested. The Eagles had to go beyond the 25-point limit twice, winning 27-25, 25-20, 26-24. Chaussee was the kill leader once again with 13 kills. Mackenzie Hannan had five kills and no errors for a team-high .556 attack percentage. Alex Zapuchlak recorded 14 assists and Nichole Schaeve had eight digs to lead the Eagles.

Edgewood College will open defense of last season's NACC championship at home on Tuesday against Marian University. The match at the Todd Wehr Edgedome starts at 7:00 p.m.
