Game Recap: Softball |

Loras pulls away from Eagles twice in Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Playing in its final bit of non-conference action this season, Edgewood College dropped both games of a doubleheader to Loras College after allowing the Duhawks to take control late in each game. Edgewood College allowed seven runs over the final two innings in a 12-4 loss in game one and allowed six in the sixth inning of game two in a 10-2 defeat.

An RBI single from Shannon Whitmus in the first and home runs from Jordan Anderson in the third and Grace Delleman in the fourth weren't enough against a Duhawks team that entered with a 14-20 overall record. Whitmus' single scored Sabrina Maicke in the first but the home team got the run back immediately in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs.

The Duhawks scored three more in the second, but Edgewood College again used the long ball to get back into it. Anderson's bomb in the first game moved her into a tie for first in the NACC in home runs while Delleman slugged her fifth home run of the season one inning later. Alyssa Hickey added to the rally after scoring on an error in the fourth to bring the Eagles to within one at 5-4 but the Duhawks opened things up with a huge fifth inning and another in the sixth to put the eight-run rule into effect.

Jordan Anderson went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Sabrina Luedtke added a double to finish 1-for-2 at the plate. Eagles starting pitcher Rachel DeJongh dropped to 6-11 after allowing six earned over 5.2 innings.

Neither team scored until Jordan Anderson's RBI double down the left field line in game two that scored Sydney Cramer. A big inning haunted the Eagles again, as Loras responded right away with four in the bottom of the third to take the three-run lead.

Jordan Anderson came up big again in the fifth with her eighth home run, which now leads the NACC. It was a solo shot to left and it brought the Eagles back to just a two-run deficit. The Duhawks and the Eagles went down 1-2-3 in each of the next couple of half innings before the home team erupted again in the sixth to put the eight-run rule into effect.

Anderson led the way with a 2-for-3 effort while DeJongh also had an extra-base hit in the game with her double in the fifth.

Along with Anderson's new spot atop the NACC in home runs, her 36 RBIs is tied for third in the league. She is just two home runs from tying the school record for round trippers in a single season.

Edgewood College plays Friday against Alverno College at Ceniti Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm and the Eagles will be celebrating Senior Day. Four Eagles will be recognized in Jackie Diesch, Rachel DeJongh, Karlie Klossner and manager Erica Remondini.
