MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's basketball team overcame a cold shooting first half to run past Concordia University Chicago 85-75 on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles overcame a six-point halftime deficit by hitting eight three-pointers in the second half, and eventually making free throws down the stretch. The victory marked the first time the Eagles have won consecutive games since the 2014-15 season.
In the first half, it was Concordia University Chicago (1-5, 0-3 NACC) who gained the first significant lead of the game. After Sy Staver dished to Tyler Lemke to give the Eagles a 17-14 lead, the Cougars scored the next nine points, including four by Justin Saar, to go up 23-17. Edgewood College (2-3, 2-1 NACC) would soon get back within three points, but CUC would open their largest lead of the game 36-24 with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. Adam Freitag nailed a pair of three-pointers to put the Eagles ahead, Barnes hit another and Tyler Westrick scored a fourth in a span of just over three minutes for a 66-56 Eagles lead.
Concordia Chicago cut the Eagles lead down to 70-66, but the Eagles' free throw shooting, which had been less the stellar most of the night, finally came through. Edgewood College made 13 of 14 free throw attempts over the final 2:13 to secure their first win in the Edgedome this season.
