MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College volleyball team knew they would need one of their best performances to knock off NACC regular season champion Concordia University Wisconsin in the conference tournament semifinal. Unfortunately, the Eagles couldn't match Kaily Moegenburg and the Falcons falling in straight sets 25-16, 26-16, 25-16. Edgewood College finishes the season at 19-14.
After Edgewood College scored the first two points of the match on a kill by Elizabeth Evans and a service ace from Savannah Koester, Concordia Wisconsin (22-7) went on a 13-2 run to take control of the set. The Eagles only got as close as eight points the rest of the way.
Edgewood College's largest consecutive run of the night was three points, which occurred in the second set. Senior Jenna Dammen and Savannah Koester scored kills around a setting error by the Falcons to bring the Eagles to 9-7. However, Concordia Wisconsin would slowly pull away, taking a 22-14 lead before closing out the set. The Eagles had their best attack percentage of the night in the second set, hitting .143 with 10 kills. The Falcons held the lead the entirety of the third set to finish the Eagles season.
Evans, a senior, led the Eagles with eight kills in her final match for the Eagles. Fellow senior Dammen ended the night with two kills. Emily Chaussee added seven kills and a team-high 17 digs. Haley Schwenn finished with 11 assists and Alex Zapuchlak had 10. The loss broke a five-year streak of reaching the NACC Tournament championship match. The Eagles had been 10-0 in NACC Tournament first round and semifinal matches since 2011.
