Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Eagles notch third straight victory

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Whatever groove the Edgewood College men's soccer team has found, they won't want to lose it anytime soon. The Eagles won their third consecutive NACC match, and first one on the road with a 3-1 victory over Marian University. The Eagles have now scored 15 goals in their last four matches, after a four-match scoreless streak.

Edgewood College (6-6, 3-3 NACC) didn't out-shoot the Sabres, but they put more shots on net. The Eagles had nine shots on goal, compared to the Marian University's (4-6, 2-3 NACC) six shot on target. The Eagles broke through in the 15th minute. Emilio Toscano picked up a deflected ball and shoved a slow roller past Sabres' goalkeeper Ian Chacon and into the lower left corner for a 1-0 lead. It was Toscano's third goal of the season.

It looked as though it would remain 1-0 going into halftime, until Nicholas Bilodeau took advantage of a poor clearance by the Sabres defense. Bilodeau picked off a clearing pass in the middle of the field and shot it past Chacon for a 2-0 advantage and his sixth goal of the season.

Early in the second half, Jesse Greenwood got his chance to put his name in the scorebook for the first time this season. Greenwood, who played on defense much of the early part of the season, took advantage of his new position and beat the Sabres goalkeeper with a shot to the far post to put Edgewood College firmly in command at 3-0.

Marian University avoided the shutout with a goal by Muhanned Abshir in the 81st minute, but the Sabres would manage just one more shot on Eagle goalkeeper Ethan Schneider for the rest of the match. Schneider finished with five saves in the contest. The Eagles made the most of their shots, only missing the frame on four of 13 attempts.

The Eagles will face a difficult challenge if they are to reach a fourth straight NACC win. On Saturday, the Eagles go on the road to defending NACC champion Concordia University Wisconsin for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. Edgewood College will return home to celebrate Senior Day on Sunday against Cornell College.
