MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team felt confident riding a winning streak into Saturday's match with Concordia University Wisconsin, but the Eagles left with a 5-0 loss to the Falcons. CUW scored two goals in the first half and made them stand up in sending the Eagles to their first loss in four games.
Concordia University Wisconsin (9-3, 2-3 NACC) put immediate pressure on Edgewood College goalkeeper Ethan Schneider. Schneider made four saves in the first 13 minutes, before the Falcons finally solved him in the 18th minute. Iven Hernandez netted his fourth goal of the season to give CUW a 1-0 lead. In the 30th minute, CUW's Justin Clayton fed Colin Dibbs to put the Falcons ahead 2-0. Edgewood College had three first half shots, coming from Henry Simon, Garrett Lee and Zander Rothering, but none were on target.
Edgewood College (6-7, 3-4 NACC) finally got their first shots on goal in the 60th minute. Simon fired on net, but CUW's Nate Yeager saved the shot. Lee followed up on the rebound, but was also denied by Yeager. Xander Bebber also made a huge play a minute later, clearing a ball off the Eagles' goal line after a shot from Dibbs.
The Falcons added two more goals shortly after when Rodriguez tallied again in the 63rd minute and Dagoberto Diaz scored on a rebound in the 66th minute. Jose Beccera added the Falcons' final goal in the 84th minute.
Edgewood College will be right back in action on Sunday afternoon at Breese Stevens Field when the Eagles host Cornell College for Senior Day. The Eagles will honor their two departing seniors Jesse Greenwood and Bebber at halftime of the match against the Rams, which starts at 2:00 p.m.
