Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lombardino’s goal keeps postseason hopes alive

MADISON, Wis. – Freshman Victor Lombardino scored the first goal of his career in the ninth minute as the Edgewood College men's soccer team held on for a 1-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran to keep their NACC tournament hopes alive.

In one of the most entertaining matches of the season, the Eagles (7-10, 4-5 NACC) and goalkeeper Ethan Schneider (7-9) notched their second shutout of the NACC season in a match that featured 30 shots and 18 corner kicks. Both teams produced plenty of quality looks, with the Warriors (8-6-3, 4-3-1 NACC) coming up empty on a number of pinballing corner kicks.

Lombardino delivered the game winner off a perfectly timed lead pass by junior Henry Simon in the ninth minute. The Eagles won possession despite being outshot in the first half and kept the Warrior attack at bay in the final 45 minutes after outshooting the Warriors, 12-6, in the final period.

The two teams combined for only eight shots on goal, but most of their 30 combined shots were either blocked or just off the mark.

Schneider collected three saves as the Eagles improved to 35-5-1 against the Warriors. They now currently occupy the sixth and final NACC tournament spot with one conference match remaining.

Up next is the NACC finale at Dominican this Saturday, October 22 at 2:30 p.m. Dominican is currently the conference leader with an 8-0 NACC record.
