Surtees seals win in back-and-forth affair

MADISON, Wis. – Freshman Sean Surtees knocked home the eventual game winner in the 86th minute of a back-and-forth, 4-2 victory against Concordia University Chicago on Saturday afternoon.

Each time the Eagles (5-6, 2-3 NACC) scored, the Cougars answered in a game that was tied for nearly 67 minutes despite featuring six goals. The Cougars (2-7, 0-3 NACC) dropped to 0-13 against the Eagles, but managed to keep pace after scoring within 10 minutes after each of the Eagles' first two goals.

Surtees' third goal of the season came at the opportune moment in a one-on-one battle with the goalie in the center of the 18-yard box. The score was set up by Garrett Lee, who also notched the game's first goal in the third minute and assisted Zander Rothering at the 90-minute mark.

Senior defender Jesse Greenwood assisted on the Eagles' first two goals, including one to midfielder Henry Simon, who scored for the third-straight match, in the 69th minute.

Both teams combined to launch 35 combined shots with the Eagles holding the upper hand, 20-15. Sophomore goalkeeper Ethan Schneider recorded three saves and survived numerous close calls in the final minutes as the Cougars tried to rally.

It was a special win for the Eagles in their Eagles Tackle Cancer game. The Eagles held a raffle, sold t-shirts, and collected donations for the UW Carbone Cancer Center during both the men's and women's games.

Next up the Eagles head to Marian University this Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m.
