CUW pulls away from Eagles in second half

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin showed its depth Tuesday night in NACC action at the Buuck Fieldhouse, as Edgewood College couldn't keep pace with a hot-shooting Falcons team. The Eagles hovered around a 10-point deficit throughout much of the first half but their 32.8 field goal percentage overall left them playing catch-up throughout the second. The Falcons ultimately prevailed by a score of 94-54.

The Eagles shot 37.5 percent from the floor in the first but couldn't quite keep the Falcons close. CUW had built a 29-12 lead with 8:37 left in the half before things started to turn around for the Eagles. Jim Bridges hit a jumper and Sy Staver converted on a layup after Emilio Lopez snagged an offensive board earlier on in the possession. Spencer Barnes then scored a conventional three-point play two possessions later to bring the Eagles back to within 10 at 29-19 at the 6:44 mark. CUW would then score seven-straight points to take the commanding lead. The home team would enter the locker room with a 42-28 advantage.

Lopez and Arik Anderson scored two quick buckets to start the second half but the Falcons would regain a 20-point advantage just over five minutes into the half. Lopez would remain hot down the stretch in the game and had seven points in just under a two-minute span at one point.

Freshman McClain Steffens was also impressive in the later moments of the game and had a career high six points on 2-of-4 shooting. Steffens joined Lopez and fellow freshman Emil Radisevic as the Eagles players with three-point field goals in the second half.

Lopez wound up with 14 points and five rebounds while Anderson was the other Eagles player in double figures with 10. Radisevic ended with seven points and four rebounds while Tyler Lemke tied for the team lead in boards with five.

Keith Kahlfeldt led five CUW players in double figures with 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting. The Falcons shot 52.0 percent (39-of-57) on the night.

The Eagles will begin a three-game home stand on Thursday, Jan. 14 with a 7 pm game against NACC foe Marian University.
