GALESBURG, Ill. – It's likely the Edgewood College men's soccer would like to remember the first 80 minutes of their match against Knox College, but it was the final 10 minutes that made the difference. The Prairie Fire scored three goals in the final 10 minutes of the contest to pull away for a 4-1 victory over the Eagles. Edgewood College dropped to 1-2 on the year.
Knox College (3-0) held a 1-0 lead at halftime thanks to a goal in the 20th minute from Joe Dyer. The Eagles found the equalizer shortly after halftime. Senior Max Harty set up freshman Garrett Lee for his second goal of the season in the 54th minute.
Edgewood College and Knox College looked to be heading toward overtime, when the Prairie Fire started to connect. The Eagles were playing with 10 men following a red card, when Abdulsalam Oganla found Nathaniel Logie off a corner kick in the 82nd minute, and less the two minutes later the same combination scored a second time. Lucas Sanchez added a fourth Knox College goal just before the end of the game for the final margin.
Edgewood College was credited with just two shots on the day, compared to 18 from Knox College. Eagle starting goalkeeper Kyle Wood made four saves in the losing effort.
Edgewood College returns to action on Wednesday, September 9 with a road trip to Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The Eagles and Rams kickoff at 5:00 p.m.
