Eagles fall to Carroll University 7-2

Morgan Wilson

Box Score

WHEATON, Ill. – Morgan Wilson's thrilling win at No. 1 singles and Haley Brooks' first career win at No. 3 doubles wasn't enough to take down undefeated Carroll University in a neutral site match on Saturday afternoon at Wheaton College Tennis Courts.

THE BASICS

FINAL SCORE: Carroll University 7, Edgewood College 2
LOCATION: Wheaton, Ill. (Wheaton College Tennis Courts)
TEAM RECORDS: Caroll University 3-0, Edgewood College 1-4

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Carroll University had little trouble besides the No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles slots, as they didn't allow an Eagles player to post more than three points in a set in the No. 2-5 singles positions.
-Wilson, the 2014 NACC Player of the Year, won in a thriller against Megan Krzewinski at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 10-8 victory.
-Haley Brooks, a freshman from Baraboo, Wis., made things interesting with Sabrina Fuller at No. 3 doubles, as they took down Lauren Goebel and Madeline Walters 9-8 (7-4). It was Brooks' first collegiate win. She dropped a 6-3, 6-0 contest at No. 6 singles.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
-Brooks' win at No. 3 doubles was a marked improvement over her other performance in that slot from this year. She previously was shut out against Wheaton just one day ago. She also posted her first points in a singles set of her collegiate career on the day in her 3-6 loss against Lauren Goebel at No. 6.
-Wilson's win was her first since the season opener against Beloit College on August 28. Prior to that, Wilson had won five of her previous nine completed matches dating back to last season.

FOR THE OPPONENTS
-Lauren Miketinac posted perhaps the most dominant day of any Carroll University player. She won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2 and also won an 8-1 match at No. 2 doubles.

UP NEXT
-The Eagles will play in their home opener on Sunday against MSOE (10 am) and Mount Mary (4 pm) at Quann Park.
