ROCKFORD, Ill. – Goals were coming easy for the Edgewood College men's soccer team late Wednesday afternoon against the Rockford Regents, as the Eagles won 4-1 to tie for their most goals scored in a single game this season.
Edgewood College won its first conference game of the season thanks to aggressive offensive play, especially in the first half. Evan Rogaczewski, who scored one of Edgewood College's two goals on Monday in a 2-1 overtime win over Maranatha, got the Eagles on the board early Wednesday, scoring on an unassisted goal in the 13th minute.
Moments later, Rogaczewski was involved in another goal after serving up a pass to freshman Garrett Lee, who headed it past Rockford starting goalkeeper Anthony Beck.
The Eagles also saw some significant contribution from the bench, as sophomore Zander Rothering knocked in the team's third goal in the 44th minute on an assist from junior Henry Simon. The goal right before half to give the team the three-goal advantage was fitting, as the Eagles outshot the Regents 11-0 in the period.
Things were relatively quiet for much of the second half, until Rothering struck again with his second goal of the game in the 75th minute on an unassisted play.
Rockford's John Deleon returned Rockford's deficit back to three goals after scoring in the 83rd minute past Steven Canterbury, but the Eagles didn't allow the Regents to register another shot the rest of the way. The Eagles ultimately outshot Rockford 19-6 and 9-2 in shots on goal.
Kyle Wood started in goal for Edgewood College and faced zero shots in the first half, while Ethan Schneider played 26 minutes and made one save. Canterbury closed things out for the Eagles and registered just under 19 minutes in net.
Edgewood College is now off until Sunday, Oct. 4, when the Eagles will travel to Concordia Chicago for a 1 pm game at Concordia Stadium.
