RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Edgewood College won its third-straight game and scored a game-winner in overtime for the second time in its last three contests Sunday afternoon at Concordia Stadium against the Concordia Chicago Cougars. Jesse Greenwood scored his second goal of the season on a blast in the 108th minute just moments before the final whistle would have been blown.
Greenwood worked his way down the left side of the field 1-on-1 with a defender. He then turned toward the middle of the field, created just enough separation between him and his defender and ripped a shot past Concordia Chicago goalkeeper Jorge Guzman's right side.
The overtime goal was the second in a span of six days for Edgewood College, as Garrett Lee—who assisted on Greenwood's goal—scored a game winner in the first overtime frame in a 2-1 win over Maranatha Baptist on Sept. 28.
The game's other goals came early and often, as Concordia Chicago got things started in the ninth minute on a goal by Joey Malme. Gibril Jobe found Malme on a lengthy lead pass across the field before Malme chased it down. He had an Edgewood College defender trailing right behind him but was able to get the shot off and scooted it past Kyle Wood's right side into the far corner of the net.
Luke Miller's first goal of the season came just eight minutes later on an assist from Greenwood. Miller shot it past Guzman after a scramble in front of the net in the 17th minute.
The Cougars were able to regain a one-goal lead in the 34th minute on an unassisted tally from Daniel Krajewski's strike. It was his fourth goal of the year.
Edgewood College senior Evan Rogaczewski was able to show off his powerful shot yet again on Sunday, as the De Pere, Wis., native converted on a lengthy blast less than two minutes after CUC's second goal for his third of the season.
Edgewood College will continue with some more NACC action with a 7 pm matchup against Marian University at Breese Stevens Field on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
