WATERTOWN, Wis. - Freshman forward Garrett Lee scored his fourth goal of the season in the 94th minute against Maranatha Baptist University early Monday evening at the Maranatha Soccer Fields to give the Eagles their first victory since a 4-1 win over Cornell College on Sept. 9.
The goal came in the 94th minute on an unassisted tally for the Menomonee Falls, Wis., native and it was the first game winner of his collegiate career. Jesse Greenwood gathered possession around midfield shortly after Corey Flannery won the ball following a Maranatha goal kick. Greenwood then ran a few paces and found Lee on a through ball. Lee took a few touches before beating Maranatha goalkeeper Charles Leeds.
The goal was the first shot from either team in the overtime period and it was the 12th overall for the Eagles in the game. The Sabercats outshot the Eagles 13-12 but Edgewood College had the edge in shots on goal 10-5.
Edgewood College's first goal was equally impressive. Evan Rogaczewski lined up for a free kick from 45 yards out in the 13th minute and the ball found its way past Leeds for Rogaczewski's first goal of the season.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of Edgewood College up until the 65th minute, when Timothy Rogers buried one past Edgewood College goalkeeper Kyle Wood off an assist from Kyler Mowry.
Zander Rothering and Roberts Lema both made things interesting in the closing moments of regulation with shots on goal in the final 1:08 to play but Leeds was there for the save both times. Maranatha's Nathan Akers also got a shot off with about five seconds remaining but his shot was high and sailed over the crossbar.
Lee led Edgewood College in both shots (4) and shots on goal (3) while Luke O'Toole was the other Eagles to record multiple shots on goal with two.
With the win the Eagles improved to 3-6 overall on the season and will get back into action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Rockford. The match from Sam Greeley Field will begin at 4 pm.
