Benedictine's header goals top Eagles in Lisle

LISLE, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team wasn't able to shake their recent scoring struggles in falling to Benedictine University 2-0 at the Village of Lisle Sports Complex on Saturday. The Eagles fell victim to a pair of header goals as Benedictine University dropped the Eagles to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the NACC.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half as Edgewood College starting goalkeeper Sabelle Seabrook made three saves. The Eagles best chance in the first half came in the 19th minute when Hannah Menzia's drive struck the post.

Benedictine University (5-4, 2-0 NACC) broke the tie two minutes into the second half when Daniela Nieto headed in a cross from Jackie Elzakhem's cross for a 1-0 lead. Erin Peterson and Danielle Brenner put shots on goal over the next 15 minutes, but were denied by Benedictine goalkeeper Maddie Frye. Benedictine added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute as Miki Winkler scored off Danielle Melotte's corner kick.

Edgewood College was outshot by Benedictine 14-6 for the game, as Seabrook made six saves. Frye turned back two shots for Benedictine.

The Eagles will step away from conference play on Monday night when they host Lawrence University at Breese Stevens Field in just their second home game of the season. Kickoff for Monday's non-conference tilt is at 7:00 p.m. with live coverage on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
