MADISON, Wis. – There will be better days in the future for the Edgewood College men's soccer team, but Wednesday night at Breese Stevens Field was a difficult night for a young team. Defending NACC champion MSOE, a veteran-laden squad, scored seven first half goals on the way to an 8-1 victory. The Eagles' record dropped to 2-5, 0-2 NACC.
MSOE (6-2, 1-0 NACC) was paced by the brother combination of Logan and Braden Andryk. Braden Andryk scored five goals, including three off assists from Logan to lead the Raiders in their NACC opener. Logan Andryk ended the night with five assists and a goal of his own.
Edgewood College broke the shutout in the 71st minute. Evan Rogaczewski played a fantastic longball ahead to Luke O'Toole. O'Toole held off two Raider defenders and poked a shot underneath MSOE goalkeeper Riley Bruce. For the freshman O'Toole, the score marked his first career collegiate goal. The Eagles had a chance to add a second goal in the 89th minute when the Eagles were awarded a penalty shot, but missed the mark.
MSOE outshot the Eagles 27-10 for the game. O'Toole and Garrett Lee each has two shots for the Eagles. Starting goalkeeper Kyle Wood made five saves, all in the first half, before Steven Cantebury replaced Wood for the second half.
Edgewood College will be back in action on Saturday, when the Eagles travel to Benedictine University for another conference match. Kickoff on Saturday from Lisle, Ill. is at 3:30 p.m.
