Box Score LISLE, Ill. – Two Benedictine University goals late in the first half proved to be the dagger for the Edgewood College men's soccer team in Saturday's NACC match. The Eagles were hanging tough with a one-goal deficit until Benedictine struck for goals in the 43rd and 45th minutes. Benedictine went on for a 6-0 win.
Nick Kapetanos put Benedictine University (4-5, 1-0 NACC) on the board in the 10th minute with a goal off an assist from Johnny Lehman. From there, Edgewood College (2-6, 0-3 NACC) held firm for much of the remainder of the first half. Dane Donnelly and Luke Miller registered shots on goal within the next 10 minutes to put pressure on the Benedictine defense. Zander Rothering registered another shot on goal in the 32nd minute. However, Kapetanos scored a pair of goals in the waning minutes of the first half for a 3-0 Benedictine advantage.
Kapetanos tallied again in the 50th minute, while Benedictine's Jonny Lehman and Francisco Delgado scored late goals for the final margin. Rothering led Edgewood College with four shots, three of which were on goal. Xander Bebber, Henry Simon and Donnelly each recorded two shots for Edgewood College. Kyle Wood played the first half in goal, making one save, while Ethan Schneider played the second half, also making one save.
Edgewood College will be right back in action with a non-conference game on Monday against Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
