Eagles fall in 2OT to UW-Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Junior Edgewood College goalkeeper Sabelle Seabrook had a career-high nine saves but UW-Stevens Point buried a goal off a corner kick in the 106th minute to drop the Eagles to 2-2 on the year Friday evening at the Point Soccer Bowl.

Just one minute prior to the Pointers' game winner, Seabrook—a native of Wauwatosa, Wis.—made a thrilling save after a scramble in front of the net shortly after a free kick from the far right side. UWSP's Elise Thuot then lined up for a corner kick just over a minute later and found Jillian Ross, who promptly buried it in the bottom left corner past Seabrook.

The double-overtime contest was the first for Edgewood College since the season opener last year against Webster University and it was the first time the Eagles have lost in such a game since 2006, when they fell to Gustavus Adolphus 2-1.

The Pointers outshot the Eagles 16-8 and had 10 shots on goal compared to the Eagles' four. Hannah Menzia, Danielle Brenner, Emily Skaer and Alisha Nolden recorded the on-target shots for the Eagles on the night. Brenner's blast came in the 93rd minute in the first overtime period while the Eagles didn't record any shots in the second overtime frame.

Ross led the way offensively for the Pointers with five shots while goalkeeper Kristen Churkey notched the shutout and had four saves.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 13 for a 2 pm game against the Luther College Norse in Decorah, Iowa.
